Alfa Romeo - A History - Revised Edition

Before the 1939-45 war, Alfa Romeo were only available to the fortunate few, but in more recent times hundreds of thousands, indeed millions, of enthusiastic motorists have become Alfa Romeo or Alfasud owners. Most of these, even if not mechanically minded, look upon their cars as something more than transport. To them this book may come as a revelation in that it proves that the accounts of motor races of the past can actually be made readable, and that informative descriptions of motor cars can be far from boring if leavened with some humour and anecdotes. This is the third revised edition of one of the "standard works" on the topic of Alfa Romeo, incorporating considerably more information on the earlier cars than appeared in previous editions. The book progresses from the early Darracq, A.L.F.A. and Alfa Romeo 1906-1919 period, through the Edwardian cars to the vintage push rod cars, RM, RMD RLSS series; the vintage grand Prix cars P1 and P2, to the master pieces of Jano with the 6c and 8c; and then on to the Prewar Grand Prix greats, the Monopostos. There is a fresh look at the early post war period with both grand prix cars and production cars, such as the 6c 2500, 1900 and then on again to the Giulietta, Giulia, Montreal etc and then drawing to a close with the Alfa Sud, Alfetta of the early eighties. Short chassis histories on a selection of the more famous prewar team cars are included, covering both the 6c 1500 and 1750 models as well as some of the 8c range and Monoposto cars. Well illustrated, this book offers a good general foundation of the marque and its cars.
