Spyders & Silhouettes: The World Manufacturers and Sports Car Championships in Photographs, 1972-1981

The 1970s were a period of continual evolution in world sports-car racing. The early 1970s saw teams using designs and equipment originating from Formula One. After the departure of Ferrari from the championship in 1973 the focus shifted. The National Grand Touring and Touring Car series were becoming popular. Then came the Group 5 category, or Silhouettes, as it was known in 1976. The Silhouette years became dominated by Porsche with the 935, successful for both the factory and many independent teams. Most of the photos in this book have never previously been published. As well as presenting an array of cars, they also feature a diverse range of the legendary driver portraits from the period, many selected from famed photographers including; Upietz, Goddard and Crocker.
