Nearly two decades after the original, Porsche revived the Carrera RS name for the 1992 model year. Based on the 964-generation 911, it proved a worthy successor to the legendary 1973 Carrera RS. The story of the 964 Carrera RS, however, began two years earlier with the 1990 Carrera Cup car.

The book 964 Carrera RS explores the origins of the 964 generation and chronicles the development of the 1990 Carrera Cup, the Carrera RS and its variants: Touring, Clubsport, RS/RSR 3.8, as well as the Carrera Cup USA and the RS America—though strictly speaking, the latter two are not true Carrera RS models.
